Unified Fire is the largest fire department in the State of Utah. Because of that, we have a multitude of career paths that a new firefighter could take in their career. Below, we have briefly outlined some of the opportunities afforded to Unified Fire Authority firefighters.

ParamedicAdvanced life support; requires some prerequisites, promotion testing and yearly certification
 EngineerDriver/Operator of fire apparatus; requires engineer school, promotion testing and competence testing
 Heavy Rescue Technician
Specialized rescue personnel; requires several advanced level classes and certifications and promotion testing 
Hazardous Materials Technician 
Specialized rescue personnel; requires HazMat school, competence testing and promotion testing
Swiftwater Rescue Technician
Specialized rescue personnel; requires ongoing training and competence testing
Bomb Technician
Cross sworn personnel; requires specialized education ongoing training and competence testing
 Emergency Management
UFA provides emergency management for all of Salt Lake County. These positions would require specialized education, ongoing training and hiring processes. 
 Tactical Medic (S.W.A.T.)
Cross sworn Paramedics working in conjunction with Law Enforcement; requires POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training), SWAT selection process and ongoing training
 Urban Search & Rescue (USAR)
1 of 28 national teams who respond to FEMA declared emergencies; requires ongoing training 
Arson Investigations 
Cross sworn investigators; requires POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training), promotion testing and ongoing training 
 Information Outreach (PIO)
Community & public relations, educational opportunities, and media relations through in person and digital platforms
 Fire Prevention
Inspection of new and existing buildings and fire related equipment; requires promotion testing and ongoing training
Medical Training & Fire TrainingTraining specialists and officers responsible for the overall execution of our medical and fire standards
 Wildland Division
Wildland firefighters responsible for both protection of our communities and available for deployment across the nation
