Response to Seismic Damage on Magna Main Street
Immediately following Wednesday’s 5.7 earthquake in the Salt Lake Valley, there was a massive amount of 9-1-1 dispatches throughout the entire county for event related emergency responses. For several hours, first responders were called to assess gas leaks, potential structural instabilities and power lines down in addition to the normal calls that would be coming into the 9-1-1 system on any given day.
One of the most visually compelling was Heavy Rescue Company 117’s response to structural damage along the several block section of the historic Magna Main Street.
With great support from Unified Police, we evacuated and taped off the area surrounding 13+ structures whose exterior brickwork had shown signs of distress or outright failure due to the seismic event.
