Lithium ion batteries and fires - a hot topic these days. Let’s go over some pointers:

- we all have and use lithium ion batteries every day; phones, laptops, e-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, and vehicles.
- they can pose an increased risk of fire if not used appropriately.
- don’t use extension cords, charge directly into an outlet.
- charging in the house near flammable materials increases your risk.
- if able, outside, away from structures is best.

Stay tuned for more safety messages regarding lithium ion batteries and how to use them safely.

Saturday night a devastating 3-car accident sent one vehicle off the roadway and into a building, rupturing a gas line and igniting a massive fire.

Two courageous bystanders risked their lives to rescue the driver and passenger from the burning vehicle just moments before it was engulfed in flames.

As fire crews began suppression efforts, a powerful explosion destroyed one business and caused significant damage to two others.

Over 60 firefighters from Unified Fire Authority, South Jordan, West Jordan, West Valley City, Sandy, and Draper worked together to battle the intense blaze.

Three individuals were transported to local hospitals. Thankfully, no firefighters or law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.

We are grateful for the bravery of the bystanders and the swift, unified response from all emergency personnel.

🎆 Utah, we love where we live, and it’s on all of us to protect this beautiful state we call home. As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let’s do it with pride and safety in mind. 🇺🇸

Fireworks are a tradition we all look forward to, but they come with real risks. Please remember:
🔥 Never light fireworks near dry grass or brush
🧯 Always have water or a hose nearby
👀 Keep a safe distance, and never relight a dud
👶 Supervise kids closely around all fireworks
🏠 Dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before tossing

Above all else, check out the incredible professional shows! They’re safer, bigger, and better than anything in the driveway. Let’s celebrate together, safely.
