Yesterday, at approximately 12:24 PM, crews were dispatched on an apt fire with residents occupying the structure in Kearns. The building was undergoing exterior renovation and construction was taking place on the roof when the fire began.
An initial 2 alarms were dispatched due to the size and occupants reported still inside. ML109 was first on scene and initiated fire suppression and evacuation with @westjordanfire L53 close behind.
Many residents were unaware of the fire taking place in the attic space above them and crews were able to evacuate everyone safely while having to forcibly enter some units to ensure they were vacant.
Fire was announced out shortly before 1:00 with multiple units affected from fire and water.
Nice work UFA crews ML109, MA109, ME125, ME118, HV117, MA121, MA217, BC13, BC12, AL115, and SAF1.
We appreciate the mutual aid support from West Jordan and @iaff_local_2970 (West Valley City).
We’re just about halfway through Unified Fire Recruit Camp 57. The recruits have been introduced to the majority of skills and tools that would be utilized on the fireground. This week these skills were tested and checked off as we continue to progress towards multi company responses, fire suppression, and victim rescue.
Testing: Cutting roof for ventilation Forcing doors Ladder raise Taking a hydrant Attack hose line deployment 2.5 hose pull Turnout drills Victim rescue
Our Investigations Bureau also came out to introduce arson and bomb investigation and the techniques they utilize to ensure public safety.
When was the last time your CEO worked out with you? Chief Burchett dropped in on the recruits and put them through a workout. Be forewarned, Chief is still putting in that work.
As we come into the warmer season, it is so important to remember outdoor fire safety. These videos were a product of a controlled burn in @eaglemountaincity to take care of some of the piled up Tumbleweeds. However, this is a great time to show how quickly and aggressively these fuels can burn.
UFA Recruit Camp 57 had an action packed week of learning and hands on skill development.

Recently, 40 members of our department attended an in house cardiac training called the Cardiac Academy. The Cardiac Academy is an 8-hour class covering anatomy/physiology, electrophysiology, and disease processes of the heart.
Crew members interested in learning or brushing up on their cardiac skills volunteered to attend in order to be more proficient providers when someone calls UFA with a heart problem.
The cardiac system is complex and UFA providers are expected to know how to differentiate between different cardiac events that can occur. The communities we serve rely on our skills to determine the best course of action to facilitate the best possible outcome for our patients.
We have additional cardiac classes happening soon, we’re excited to continue training additional UFA providers!
